BGMC Planning permission given

We are excited that LBTH have given us planning permission to redevelop our site and build a new church and community space. We are in the middle of preparing to move out of our building which we have occupied for 60 years in order for it to be demolished and rebuilt. This is an exciting but scary new chapter in our journey as a church and we are looking forward to the possibilities and opportunities ahead.

Members of 5 Bethnal Green churches including a team from BGMC did something different this Ash Wednesday morning by offering ‘Ashes to Go’ at the entrances of Bethnal Green tube station. We are holding another clothes swap on Friday 14th November starting at 7pm and finished at 10pm. If you want to swap any of your unworn or unwanted good quality women’s and children’s clothes then come along. There will be locally-made crafts for sale and refreshments. Project wins dads football tournament!

On Thursday 27th March the BGMC/Globe school dad’s football team entered a local competition organised by Ambassadors Football against 7 other local schools and churches. The BGMC/Globe team won the tournament without conceding a goal in 7 matches and pipped their rivals by scoring in the last minute of the last game to lift the mighty trophy. BGMC are taking part in CORD’s (Christian Outreach Relief and Development) Lent ‘spend a penny challenge’. The idea is to raise awareness and funds for CORD’s work in Africa and Asia which is addressing the lack of access to water and sanitation which drives poverty and which can become a key source of conflict. Community Christmas Tree Festival success!

Thank you to all those groups who entered the amazing trees into the festival on Saturday and who helped to make the day such a successful celebration of the diverse work that goes on in Tower Hamlets. 329 votes were made during the day and the group with the most votes was Weavers Field Adventure Playground. Christmas shoebox packing bonanza

Over 20 people from BGMC took part in the Christmas Shoebox Appeal packing night on Wednesday evening. We managed to pack over 60 shoeboxes full of goodies to send out to people in Eastern Europe. The shoeboxes of gifts are given to families who often have to make a choice between buying food or fuel at Christmas time – buying presents is just not a priority. BGMC Community Christmas Tree Festival

Our 3rd Christmas tree festival is on Saturday 14th December, 10am-5pm. We are hoping for lots of groups to enter trees, so if you belong to local organisation that want to design a tree that tells a story about your work, please get in touch. Entry is free.
