Street Pastors

Street Pastors is a response from a broad spectrum of the Christian Church to urban problems, engaging with people on the streets during the late and early hours of the day to care, listen and dialogue, especially with vulnerable young adults. Street Pastors are trained, local volunteers who work with fellow activists, church and community leaders, and with agencies and projects, both statutory and voluntary, to look at collaborative ways of seeking change in issues affecting our urban community such as crime and safety.

Each city project is set up by Ascension Trust and run by a local coordinator with support from Ascension Trust and local churches and community groups, in partnership with the Police, and local and central government.

BGMC has supported and been involved in the work of Street Pastors Tower Hamlets since its launch in the borough in Summer 2010. A member of BGMC, Albert is currently the oldest serving Street Pastor in Tower Hamlets – not bad for 106 years old! (well not quite….).  See here for more details about the work in Tower Hamlets.
